When it became obvious that what she and Dean had was—whatever the hell it was—Ruby decided to get to know her new hometown and the woman the Winchesters found themselves entangled with a little bit better. She knew this town was crawling with weird; what she didn't realize was where all the weird was coming from. She'd heard the stories, sure, but once she started digging? Well, Smallville just kept getting more and more interesting.
Eventually she found herself wondering labs and looking through files, searching for anything she might be able to use, or maybe sell for a little extra cash. These people had put these meteors to good use, especially when it came to Luthorcorp. Her landlady would probably have her head if she caught her poking around, but she could live with that. There were worse things, much worse.
Little did she know that "much worse" was going home with her tonight.

It doesn't mean he doesn't spend time with Joey. He spends plenty of time with his kid. He just spends a lot of time doing ... whatever it was he did with Ruby too.
Which is why he's currently sitting in the middle of Ruby's living room, waiting for her to get home. He doesn't know where she is, but he's bored, and possibly going through her stuff. Or just idly poking -- who really knows?

Or feminine products.
Regardless of his poking or what she was carrying, she was glad to see him, whether it seemed like it or not.
"I keep the porn under the sink. Just so you know."

After that, he came out from behind the counter and looked over at her. "Where ya been?"
no subject
...wow, that really wasn't what she meant to say. Maybe if she busied herself with stashing her loot in the bedroom closet he would think it was just some witty retort and brush it off. Not that she cared what he thought about her activities; it was just none of his business.

He went about fixing himself another cup of coffee, before moving to plop down on her couch. "Did you find anything good?"
no subject
That wasn't what happened.
"Tons, but I only brought back a few things. You wouldn't believe the things you can do with those meteors that fell here." She took the coffee from him and drank to keep more words from seemingly falling out of her mouth.
He could get more.

"Meteor rocks. Really." He knew that meteor rocks did freaky things to people, but the extent of them he wasn't sure. Hearing this? Was bringing up a lot of questions. Especially considering that it was a demon who was looking into them. "What'd you find?"

Dean Winchester, king of the analogy.

"Well. I guess I can skip the demon testing of all future meteor products."

She nodded. "Yeah, only it was the other way around. All she had to do was ask and people would cough up their most guarded secrets. How did you know?"

"Easy to do when you're not the one blurting out your innermost thoughts and feelings."

BOOM!
"No. I've never loved anyone the way I love you, and every time you leave I'm afraid you won't come back."
As soon as she'd said it, she turned away from him, not able to face him anymore, even if she was looking at the floor.

She really didn't just say that.
Dean just stared at her, stunned. There were words that needed to go with that, but he couldn't bring himself to say them. It wasn't that he didn't feel the same way. He did, or at least thought he did. He's never actually felt this way about someone before -- and because life loved to bite him in the ass, it had to be a demon.
But it wasn't all bad. And it was actually kind of nice.
... But that still meant he didn't have any idea as to what to say.

Too bad there was really nowhere to run to. She'd end up right back where she started.
Then the anger started to build--anger at him for making her feel like this, anger at herself for feeling anything for him at all, and anger at the green fucking space rocks forcing her to act like a dumbass teenage girl.
Ruby lifted the bottle and took a drink, long enough to worry anyone who didn't know she wasn't human. It was the only thing she could think to do.

Well, this is going great so far. " ... fuck." He buried his face in his hands. Yeah. Dean's not going to be useful as of yet. Give him a couple more minutes.
"Do you know how screwed up this is?" Or maybe not. "We're not supposed to have to talk about all this feelings shit."
no subject
To answer your question: yes, Dean, she knows how screwed up it is. Now please interrupt her so she doesn't go any deeper into her rant and throw her bottle of booze across the room.

At the end of the day, Dean Winchester was a bastard. He knew it, and everyone else did too. There was something about the way she was rambling that indicated there was something big at the end of that ramble, and he was inclined to let her continue. In fact, he might even ask her a direct question to keep her going. "And who were you trying to decieve exactly?"
no subject
What he was getting was the only thing she'd been actively hiding from him.
Ruby paused her pacing, turning toward him but avoiding direct eye contact. "Well, I was hoping to stay miles away from 'I love you,' but look how that turned out." She followed that with another long drink from the bottle.

"Would you say something?! Tell me to shut up, change the subject, call me a black-eyed skank, I don't care! Just--talk. This is almost worse than you laughing in my face, almost, but not quite."

No. No, she didn't.
She turned her eyes back to him and held the bottle out for him to take if he wanted. At this point, he probably needed it more than she did.

"I just gave you an easy out. Take it or leave it."
With that she turned to walk away, fully intending to get ready for bed and letting this day be over.

For now she was stripping down to her panties and going to sleep--or laying there trying to decide if she just made a big mistake.
